Here’s our guide for the curious and uninvited on whether your phones need some Google juice. We’re not going to explain every feature, quirk, and option in the Google Voice service, which is slowly giving out invites to those who request them . We’ve already taken a first look at Google Voice , and Google Voice’s own Getting Started guide does a nice job explaining the service’s ins and outs. If you’re shopping for a smartphone, you want the best features you can get. But a new study suggests that many standard cellphone users are annoyed by unimportant add-ons. What do you want out of your basic cellphone? Photo by compujeramey . To get specific, mobile phone recycling company FoneBank surveyed phone users in the U.K., finding that 61 percent consider their phones laden with unnecessary features, 45 percent never use their phones’ MP3 players, and 30 percent don’t care at all about their camera quality (which, at a common 1.3 or 2.0 megapixels with micro-sensors, we can’t really blame them).

Android 1.5 Adds Soft Keyboard, Video Recording, Loads More [Android]

Google has released an Android 1.5 SDK preview for developers, and it shows off what owners of Android phones (just the G1, of course, for now) can expect to see soon. The best of the goodies includes speed improvements on the camera, browser, and GPS functionality, an on-screen soft keyboard (indicating a no-slide-out-keyboard G2?), a custom dictionary, video recording and playback in MP4 and 3GP formats, updated Webkit browser, and much more.
